Welcome back to Manna Monday. Today's message is is short, but it's powerful. It's potent. It's you are most capable to help the person you used to be. There's a quote that's been resonating in my heart.
Dr. Barrett:And that one sentence is something that carries healing, it carries direction and purpose. It reminds us that our past doesn't disqualify us at all. It actually equips us and equips us to help others that have been where we have been. So think about it. Every decision, every version of you from the past until now, it speaks.
Dr. Barrett:It speaks from a season maybe you were the most confused, or the most doubted, or the most anxious, or the most fearful. Those seasons where you maybe were hurting the most, or felt the most overwhelmed, you walked through those, you grew through those. And when we go through those seasons of mistakes or pain, healing and growth, it's those experiences didn't just happen to you, they happened for you, for a reason, for a purpose. And why, a lot of times we ask why did those things happen or why am I walking through this? And again, I think it's not happening to you, it's happening for you for the purpose of affecting somebody else.
Dr. Barrett:You are most capable to help the person you used to be. So you've walked through all these things, right? And Paul says, in second Corinthians one verse four, that he comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. That's purpose. That's redemption.
Dr. Barrett:Right? That's how God wastes absolutely nothing. When you've overcome something like addiction, you understand the struggle of an addict. Only you can identify with someone who's been like you, right? When you've been broken by loss, you can speak differently to someone who's grieving.
Dr. Barrett:You know, when you battle some type of like fear, or shame, your words carry grace instead of judgment, it's the person who's walking through the same thing. That's why I don't judge any man. When we look at this world, it's easy to judge people. But until you walk through their shoes, do you realize the weight that everyone carries in their own unique way. So, here's your weekly challenge.
Dr. Barrett:First, judge no man. Two, use what God has walked you through for the purpose of helping someone else walk through that same thing. Again, you are most equipped to help the person you used to be. So take five minutes and just think. So as you're listening to this, take five minutes and just process who were you three years ago, five years ago, ten years ago.
Dr. Barrett:What did you walk through? And what did that person need to hear? In that season where you were struggling the most, what got you through it? Who got you through it? What was said that got you through that season?
Dr. Barrett:So then what encouragement, what truth or direction would help someone else take that next step? Look around you and think about someone who might be walking through that same season and share from that season of growth that would help propel them through that season as well. You don't have to be perfect. You just have to be present with that person. And so just just get off of ourselves this week and think about others.
Dr. Barrett:Think about where you've come from and use that growth season to bless someone else in your life because you are most capable to help the person you used to be.
