There's a concept this week I was processing, and it was the idea of a walkthrough versus a breakthrough. And what I mean by that is, I think a lot of us, we're in seasons of difficulty, like coming up against a mountain, we're asking God for a breakthrough. We just want a moment. We want this like, mountaintop experience, where we're just different. You know, something changes.
Dr. Barrett:It's quick, it's rapid, it's instant. It's like you put it in a microwave and it's just, I'm done, thirty seconds. But, but although I do fully believe that God is a miracle working God, can heal at any time, can provide that breakthrough, there's another concept that is like, what about just being a walkthrough? Not a breakthrough, but a walkthrough. Maybe the Lord's just asking you to walk this season with him, where he's developing something in you.
Dr. Barrett:Maybe He's developing character. Maybe he's developing a sense of reliance upon Him, a trust in Him. You know, I don't know how many people have breakthroughs versus walkthroughs. And I don't know how many people are walking through something that give up before the breakthrough inevitably happens. I think when there's breakthroughs in our life, it's this sense of walking through something long enough until we finally come out on the other side, and that's the breakthrough moment.
Dr. Barrett:But much of life is sanctification. Much of life is going through a season where your spirit is being refined, you're looking more like Jesus day by day, the life of a disciple. And so really today, I'm speaking to you, if you're walking through hard, it's not to no avail. It has its fruit. It's bearing fruit right now, even when it doesn't make sense, even when it doesn't look like it.
Dr. Barrett:You're walking through a season where there will be a breakthrough, but in the season that there isn't, you're developing the character of Jesus. Proverbs 3:5-6, "trust in the Lord, and lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all your ways, and He will direct your paths." And as we surrender and sacrifice the destiny to the Lord, the day to the Lord, our tomorrow to the Lord, we find ourselves not living in anxiety, because He is sovereign, He is in control, He's the one that leads us. Psalms 23: He's the good shepherd that leads us beside still waters.
Dr. Barrett:He restores the soul. He fills our cup to overflowing. He anoints our head with oil. He makes sure that, you know, surely goodness and mercy will be upon us, and that will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. These are promises of the Lord that are typically in alignment with a walk through, not a breakthrough.
Dr. Barrett:So, if you've been praying through asking God, petitioning and begging for a breakthrough, maybe this season of life is just a life where He's just asking you to walk with Him, trust in His ways, lean not on your own understanding, and ask Him what He's trying to teach you in this season. What character is He trying to develop? What is He trying to pull out of you? What gift is He refining? What is He doing in this season that's bearing fruit, that will bear fruit and is bearing fruit for eternity?
Dr. Barrett:So as you walk through this week, my prayer is that you have clarity in what you're walking through.
